Rising star, Yiwon Park works across a variety of mediums including, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printing and performance.

"I like to do paintings that are...fragile, clear, ambiguous, philosophical and with an unknown depth.” states Korean born, Sydney based artist Yiwon Park.

There is a beautiful synergy between the conscious and unconscious in her work, with a basis in traditional Korean Art. Yiwon reinterprets her Asian heritage with a contemporary sense humour and emotion as she redefines her experiences in Australia.

"My own Pacific Ocean”, being the link between her two worlds.

"My intention is to research the collective unconscious, interpret and cultivate ways of expressing feelings through my objects, drawings, paintings and performance….” Explains Park, “It is through this dialogue that I am able to communicate beyond language, culture and time and reach an intuitive place that is closely linked to nature, body, mind and spirit.”

Yiwon's paintings are dreamlike and otherworldly. Her symbolism, clouds and waves, eggs with little legs and odd fish like creatures reflect her multicultural background with a twist of the fantastical.

Her symbolism deals very much with emotional responses to her experiences and reflects elements derived from traditional Asian Influences… its this unique and sensitive personal connection that captured me.” states Kate Hopkinson-pointer, Director of Gallery@28.

These are exquisite, delicate yet powerful works. The true beauty lies in the artist’s ability to recreate her personal cross-cultural experiences visually and emotionally through her chosen medium.
